Tygerberg Children's Choir

For 52 years Tygerberg Children's Choir has captivated audiences worldwide. Based in Cape Town's Northern Suburbs, this talented group of young singers has taken lovers of choral music on a very special musical journey with every performance. Tygerberg Children's Choir was formerly under the baton of internationally acclaimed conductor Hendrik D Loock with Theresa Loock as arranger and accompanist. In May 2019, Mr Loock finally laid down his baton and a new choir leader, Karina Erasmus, was appointed along with a new accompanist, Madri   Gerber.

This talented group of young singers, aged 10 to 15, consistently ranks among the world's finest. In fact, they currently hold the prestigious title of the number one choir in the Sacred Music & Music of the Religions division and sit proudly at number two overall on the Interkultur World Rankings, solidifying their position as the fourth-best Children's and Youth Choir globally.

The Choir comprises of 70 to 76 members, both boys and girls. Auditions are held annually, where nominations are welcome from both school choir leaders and parents, which ensures a vibrant selection process. The choir members leave the choir at the end of grade 9.

The choir regularly performs with great aplomb and is one of South Africa's proudest export products. The choir has won every major international choral competition since its inception in 1972 and its unsurpassed legato singing, maturity of sound, musical power and dynamic interpretation of very difficult material makes Tygerberg Children's Choir a foremost exponent in the world of international competition choirs.
